Tonight I watched the movie “Defiance” with Daniel Craig who stars as Tuvia Bielski, one of four Jewish brothers who escaped from Poland into the forests of Belarus during World War II to lead a band of resistance fighers and create a safe haven for Jewish refugees. The real-life sanctuary established by the Bielski brothers saved more than 1,000 Jews from persecution and death. These 3 brothers lost their entire family, Mother, Father, Wives and children yet through this tragedy they found strength.

“We are not strong-because we have not suffered.” sounds ludicrous and I never hope that I have to go through what the Jews did during World War II. Yet, There are so many stories of strength in the midst of suffering. As a believer in Christ Jesus I see countless examples of suffering and I ask how could a loving God allow his people to suffer? I believe simply that God wants us to focus on HIM, and find our strength in HIM and not ourselves.

I’m not a preacher and I can’t debate “evolution” or even “Why God does what he does or what HE allows to happen”. But the one thing I know is that I need HIM. I can’t do “Life” without HIM and my strength is in HIM.

As soon as life presses it’s weight on me I run to HIM just as my little boy comes running down the hall at night because “LIFE” is now pressing on him. As his mommy tucks him into bed I see that scared little face begin to relax because he is now safe in our room. We can be “Defiant” in the face of the night and “Strong” each day because Christ can take away the “Fears” of life as HE walks with us each day.
